World Sepsis Day 2021

World Sepsis Day is happening on September 13th, and is celebrating its 10th anniversary of this event. This cause is of great importance to Dr Atkinson, who is currently the RACS surgical lead for the National Sepsis Alliance. The aim of World Sepsis Day is to promote awareness of sepsis, and the key signs and symptoms to be aware of.

What is Sepsis?

Sepsis is a complication that occurs as a result of an infection, which causes the body to injure its own tissues and organs. This can result in shock and multi-organ failure, and can result in death if not detected and treated early. There are approximately 47-50 million cases of sepsis each year, and 1 in 5 deaths worldwide are associated with Sepsis.

  • Slurred speech or confusion
